For My Rebecca: Day 16

Making the best of what you've got - mmmm Rebecca, it drives me nuts when you say things like that because I was perfectly okay with not making new friends and here you are making me realize that I'm going to fill out the dorm papers dammit I hate paperwork. (I'm a softy for you!) What does it mean to make the best of what you have? Do you have to appreciate everything you have including things that make you suffer? It it ok sometimes just to not like something about your life and not want to try to change it?

Thank you for making me change my mind in yet another 3:00 argument, I need to learn how to put up more of a fight against you.

  1. Sorry for this being so late, but I fell asleep right before you texted me yesterday, had to get up early to take that test, and literally just got home like 20 minutes ago :P so yeah.
    Anyway :)

Making the best of what you have is a tricky statement, because it doesn't mean you should settle for mediocrity within yourself - it simply means using the available resources to their fullest extent for the benefit of you, others, and (most important) God.
The only thing I can say about appreciating things that make you suffer is it really and truly makes you appreciate it when things are good again. Even just the little things mean so much more when they weren't always that way.
The last statement is also a tricky one. There is a difference between laziness and moping and accepting something for what it is. I found a new quote and I like it a lot, "Giving up doesn't always mean you're weak. Sometimes it just means you're strong enough to let go." There are some things you have to fight for, and others you have to realize just aren't worth it. However it is important to note that just because you may feel upset with the situation that does NOT give you an excuse to stop fighting or making the best of it. There is a fine line.

I was really happy to hear about your dorm plans for UNR. To be honest with you, I think it will cause more separation for us, but I guess it will really show just how much our relationship is worth. And no matter what, I'm glad you made that decision. I have a feeling it will pay off.
